Lunar Medical is solving the challenges of providing medical support for human spaceflight and austere environments here on Earth. 

 

Lunar Medical was born out of a research program that examined the challenges faced by humans in extreme environments.  Initial NASA and Canadian Space Agency funded work included studying psychological stressors in Antarctic over-winter personnel,  telemedical support simulations conducted at Devon Island’s Haughton Mars Project Research Station (HMPRS), the NASA-CSA-DLR In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) expedition on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, and at the Eureka Weather Station on Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic.  These remote locations serve as Space-Analogue Environments, and replicate some of the remote and harsh conditions of spaceflight.

We believe that the advanced system concepts currently being designed to provide medical care on the Moon or Mars can inform terrestrial efforts to improve remote and rural medical care.  Lunar Medical was born from this vision – to develop autonomous, high quality medical care systems for spaceflight, and to bring that technology back to Earth.  State-of-the-art medicine anywhere, anytime, for everyone.
